Festival of Bloom of Citrus

(Voucher also applicable for our citrusfertilizer)

White flowers in panicles, followed by red berries, and decorative leaves that turn bright red in fall and change back to green in next spring – what more can you expect from a shrub like the Heavenly Bamboo (Nandina domestica)? This robust plant can be planted out in the garden but is also happy in containers in the patio or conservatory.

Description

The Sacred Bamboo or Heavenly Bamboo (Nandina domestica) is not actually a bamboo. However, it makes itself known with its unique qualities as a container, conservatory, or garden plant. Firstly, there are the pinnate leaves that turn a fiery red in fall and then green again in spring without falling off. The young shoots are also reddish. Then there are the large, up to 30 cm long, upright candles of white flowers in summer, closely followed by the bright red berries. The eye-catching fruit stands are partially bent over due to their own weight. But that's not all: due to its cold tolerance, you can even plant these low-maintenance multi-talents, which consist of individual root shoots, in the garden. Here they prefer slightly shaded places on always lightly moist, somewhat loamy soil – just like in Japan, where they are widely grown in classical Japanese gardens and temple compounds.
