There are several varieties of Passion Fruit: the classical type with purple fruits - Passiflora edulis forma edulis, or short: P. edulis- and this one with yellow-coloured fruits: Passiflora edulis forma flavicarpa. Its app. 7 cm big Maracuyas have a roundish to oblong-oval shape and the typical, tryangular arrangement of fruit pulp if you cut them in the middle. The aromatic fruit pulp has a strong, orange colour making it very popular for decorating ice cream and for the refinement of fruity souces. For harvesting many fruits, it is best to grow two plants, because the pollen of one plant does not always fit to the own flowers. As soon as the stigmas bend down and become gluey after the flower has opened, you can also transfer the pollen with a paintbrush in order to improve the harvest. Quality: big fruits with yellow peel; exotic flowers; fast-growing climber
Use: in pots from May outside on balcony, terrace or winter garden - during winter indoors; better harvest if cultivated all-year in a heated greenhouse.
